The 2024 Royal Adelaide Show has come to a close, bringing to an end another successful year showcasing agriculture, providing family fun, and celebrating everything that is great about South Australia. Of course, putting on such a large event would be impossible without the generous support of people like you, and the many thousands of individuals and organisations that lend their support from across the State.
The Royal Agricultural & Horticultural Society (SA) is a volunteer governed, independent, not-for-profit organisation that promotes excellence in our primary industries. Your support enables us to generate more than $200m in economic value each year, and proudly support more than 200 community groups, charities, schools and industry associations year-round.
The Royal Adelaide Show once again drew thousands of visitors from every corner of South Australia, and the atmosphere and community spirit was palpable. We were thrilled to see a growth in attendance compared to 2023, highlighted by our second busiest day in more than seven years on the final Saturday of the Show.
Showcasing the achievements of our primary industries through competition is central to Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society’s mission and are proud to report that competition entries continue to grow, with notable increases in grains and fodder, led steers, cookery, and junior divisions.
Our hands-on agriculture and horticulture displays were once again a standout for families, including Aggie’s Farm, the Learning Centre by Urrbrae, Golden Grains, the Old Ram Shed and the Farmyard Nursery. These spaces, alongside the competition and displays, provide an opportunity for Show-goers to gain a deeper appreciation for the care and expertise that goes into producing our food and fibre.
The children’s midweek entertainment was again a hit, with Bluey drawing more than 1,000 fans to each performance. Headline acts from the Adelaide Fringe’s Gluttony were also hugely popular as they entertained large crowds of spectators with music, dance and comedy.
This year, inclusivity was a major focus, with the introduction of an accessible Ferris wheel, Carnival Quiet Hour, and Communication Boards, which were developed in partnership with Autism SA. These important initiatives ensure an inclusive and enjoyable Show experience for more South Australians.
