Art & Craft - Junior & Open

The prestigious Duncan Gallery in Goyder Pavilion is the home of the Art & Craft & Quilt display. With this impressive location you can spend hours of viewing pleasure.

An information and demonstration area providing tips and advice on a range of handicrafts will be located within the Duncan Gallery. Representatives of Guilds and teaching associations will provide demonstrations and assistance on their specialities.

Handicrafts (Formerly Open Art & Craft

Exhibitors can enter a Cuddle Toy, suitable for Children or a Memory Box (entries go to the Women's and Children's Hospital) or a Hat/Cap suitable for Chemotherapy Patients (St Andrews Hospital) and a Beanie (Hutt Street Centre). Other sections to look at are Basketry, Leatherwork, Classes for People with Special Needs, Origami, Scrapbooking and Porcelain Art.

In 2019, the theme will be the Bicentennial of Queen Victoria's birth. Proposed classes will be available for exhibitors to consider for the following year.

Quilt Competition

The Quilt section includes a class for a "Star Quilt". The Best Overall Exhibit in Quilts will receive a new Sewing Machine valued at $800.

Model Engineering Trains

Both steam and diesel locomotives will be judged on Friday 24 August from 2.30 pm.

Junior Art, Craft & Design

Creative ideas, the experimental use of a diverse range of media, examples of divergent thinking and images, you will see all of this in the Junior Art, Craft and Design display. This is the largest annual display of art, craft and design work in Australia by young South Australians. Three new classes for Pre- Schoolers (aged 2 to 5) – Drawing, Painting and Craft will be displayed.

Junior Textiles (Formerly Home Economics)

With exhibitors from 5 years of age through to 19 years, Junior Textiles includes Embroidery, Knitting, Crochet, Textile Articles and Garment Construction. A variety of classes are on show from Fabric Toys, Applique, Patchwork, Quilting, Machine Embroidery to Creative Accessories made from textiles.

Cake Decorating

The Show Cake Decorating Competition is conducted in association with the Cake Decorators' Association of South Australia. Wedding Cakes are featured in the Master's – "Spring" theme, Intermediate – "Rockabilly" theme and Novice - "Hippy" theme Sections – with a Celebration Cake for the Senior Section. Novelty Cakes featuring themed sculptured designs include "Fake Food" and "Camellia Floral Art" in recognition of the Feature Flower in Horticulture.

Honey

A variety of classes including Extracted Liquid Honey, Native and Imported Flora, Blue Gum, Candied Honey, Creamed Honey, Comb Honey (Packaged & or Framed), Beeswax, Novice Section and Young Beekeepers, for exhibitors under 18 years of age, Beeswax Candles including two new classes for 2018 Sweet & Dry Mead.
